This week, Year 3 became real scientists as we took part in a fun investigation during Science Week. Our big question was: Do longer femurs help us jump further?

The children began by carefully measuring the length of their femurs (the thigh bone) using measuring tapes. They then made predictions about whether pupils with longer femurs would be able to jump a greater distance. After that, it was time for the exciting part — testing our ideas on the playground! Pupils practised standing long jumps and measured how far they travelled.

Back in the classroom, we compared our results and discussed whether our predictions were correct. We talked about how scientists use evidence to support their ideas and how results can sometimes surprise us.

It was wonderful to see the children showing curiosity, teamwork and great enthusiasm for scientific enquiry. Science Week reminded us that asking questions and testing ideas helps us learn more about ourselves and the world around us. Well done, Year 3! 🌟
