New School Library

The Head Girl and Boy Team had the amazing idea of creating a library for the school community to use. After A LOT of hard work from Rita, Asa, Dylan and Agnes, the library is now ready to open and be used by all.

Today, the heroes took their buddies on a tour of the library, showing them where to find certain books and how to take out and return a book. It has taken an enormous amount of time, effort and money to create the library, so we ask everybody to respect the rules and the books.  All children in the school have a personal account and are able to take out a maximum of two books at any one time. Any lost or badly damaged books will have to be paid for in full.

We are hoping to get some soft furnishings in the near future so that people can also read and relax in the library space. In the meantime please come and see the library, borrow a book and enjoy!

If you would like to donate a book to the library, we request that it is a new book and that it will inspire the range of readers across the school.

Spring Fair

What a super day it was last Friday – the spirit of the children and parents brought out the sunshine. Thank you to PiP for organising the fun, food and frolics! The stalls at the fair raised £465 which will contribute to enriching the learning opportunities.

Football League Playoffs

Well done to our Y3/Y4 girls and boys football teams this week who competed in league playoffs at Parliament Hill. They played well and showed strong team unity. Unfortunately, they did not make it through to the finals on this occasion, but they should feel a good sense of achievement on trying their best.

Clubs

Our new club, Mandarin, seems to be going well with good feedback from the children. As you know we started Science last term. Unfortunately the quality of this provision from the organisation, Mother Nature, has been disappointing, especially for the juniors. As a result, the junior club will not continue after half term – parents will be reimbursed for lost lessons. Infant science, which has been more positive, will continue until the end of the term. After further research, we have found another company, ‘Little House of Science’ which we hope will foster children’s drive for exploration in the next year.

Prayer Week: 20th – 24th May

We are having our first prayer week which will focus on prayer and will enable the children to develop an understanding of how world faiths pray.

During this week there will be a prayer room open throughout the school day which will include a prayer wall and big questions wall for children to interact with.

There will be a daily assembly and worship about prayer throughout the week which will be led by someone from different faiths including Judaism
Islam, Sikhism, Christianity and Hinduism.

As part of this week we are also looking at finding a Christian verse that encapsulates our school community. Please look out for a ballot box in the school playground.

Cake Sale

Y4 are having a cake sale on Thursday May 23rd (next week) in the junior playground, after school. Please bring coins to buy cakes. Cake donations from our families are very welcome.

Christian Value

Our Christian value for this half term is ‘Compassion.’

When children become actively involved in acts of showing compassion to others, they learn about this value in a very deep and enduring way. So why not look for age-appropriate ways to introduce your child to volunteering, such as visiting a nursing home and sharing a craft activity with a resident, serving a meal at a homeless shelter, collecting coats to donate to needy children, or even participating in a charity walk for a specific cause. These activities are meaningful and fun, which makes them especially effective in enabling children to routinely think compassionately about the needs of others.

“So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.” (Matthew 7: 12)
