We revisited our ‘Ten Minutes Peace’ programme this week with teachers having early morning sessions, culminating in key stage assemblies on Friday with the children. It is founded in the principles of yoga and the aim is that we will use the techniques we have been taught, at points during the school day. We believe that it will fit with our drive to the mental health and well-being of our children.
Y2 & Y5 had fire safety workshop this week led by the London Fire Brigade. This is an annual workshop for these classes which means that, by the end of primary school, all children will have been taught the importance of home fire safety, without becoming worried about a fire happening in their home.
On Tuesday our intrepid footballers played their final two league matches. Our girls beat St Eugene’s 4-0 and lost to Primrose Hill 2-0, with goals scored by Jia (2) and Taylor (2). Honourable mentions should also go to Maisha and Ranyah, who played particularly well and did lots of assertive tackling! Our boys beat St Eugene’s 3-0 and drew with Primrose Hill 0-0, with goals from Khalil (2) and Augie (1). Khalil’s goals are particularly impressive as he was playing in defence!
We are hugely proud of our footballers’ efforts this season, and particularly the way they have shown caring and support for each other, while also remaining respectful and friendly to other teams, in victory and defeat. Our girls are guaranteed to finish in third place in the league; the boys will finish either in third or fourth, depending on other teams’ results. This means that our boys’ and girls’ teams have both qualified for the playoffs, which take place on Tuesday 4th February. Thank you to staff and parents who have supported the children throughout this season, especially Serge, who coached the boys brilliantly on Tuesday from the sidelines!
PE Stars of the Week
Last week Y6 shared their experiences with the school on how they have developed greater endurance. They also gave words of encouragement that included: the need to keep trying, believing that you can do something, telling yourself never to give up, think positively, don’t be down on yourself, never let yourself believe that something is impossible. They also reminded us that you cannot always succeed the first time at some things. To help work towards increasing your endurance remember: take your time, avoid worrying about what others might be thinking and believe in simply doing the very best that you can.
“For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.” (Romans 15:4)
