Year 1 have been looking at the work of Guyana-born artist Frank Bowling, who uses bright paint, geometric shapes and collage in his artwork.

We have been experimenting with colour and shapes – we drew around shapes with oil pastel, and then washed it over with watercolour. The oil pastels repelled the watercolour, leaving the lines of our shapes still visible on the page.

We also created collages in the style of Frank Bowling, cutting out shapes and ‘money’ to glue onto our paper.

We also got a chance to work with paint. We placed paint onto our pages and then moved the paper around to mix the colours together.

Year 1 did a great job and are becoming even more confident artists!
