As part of our learning on how we can sort and classify living things, we have thoroughly enjoyed sorting groups of very different living things. However, as we have progressed through our learning, we have realised that classifying living things which share very similar broad characteristics is much more challenging!

We were tasked with classifying some tasty treats with similar broad characteristics to refine our questioning and grouping skills. While many of us were initially dubious, we soon found that we were able to ask questions to sort even the most similar of sweets based on their observable characteristics.

Each group created their own set of unique questions, which raised some interesting reflections on the extent to which we need a standard way of classifying.

Luckily, very few of us are liquorice fans, and we were warned that nibbling on any of our sweets may cause the extinction of an entire species…!
