Today, Year 6 were extremely lucky to receive a visit from a very special guest (Miss Robey’s mum!). Long ago, her family members were trialled during the Pendle witch trials. She shared her family’s story and gave us a fascinating insight into the unjust treatment of women accused of witchcraft. We were particularly shocked to discover that many of the ‘spells’ the accused were thought to have concocted were, as it turns out, harmless items we might now find in supermarkets or pharmacies, such as honey, thyme and garlic! We ended with a discussion about the petition to pardon the Pendle witches and thought carefully about how injustices of the past could be made right.
