Year 2 Drama into Writing: Journey from Jamaica
We have begun our topic about Windrush as part of Black History Month. In History we have looked at photographs from this time and thought about what we can learn about the past from these sources. In drama we explored the stories of those who travelled on the Empire Windrush from Jamaica to Britain in 1948. In excited anticipation, we said goodbye to relatives, had last days in the sun and boarded the boat. We then contrasted these emotions with feelings of rejection and loneliness in London and thought about how people who journeyed from the Caribbean felt when they arrived in the city. Over the coming weeks, this will help us write letters in role as those who immigrated to Britain from the Caribbean during this time.
