To start the term in Year 3, we’ve been on a journey to discover something really important: what kind of reader am I?
Everyone in our class is different—and that includes how we read, what we enjoy reading, and when and where we like to read best. That’s why we’ve been exploring Reading Our Way.
Rather than one-size-fits-all reading, we’ve been encouraged to think about:
- What stories, topics, or authors excite us
- Whether we love fiction, facts, comics, or poetry
- If we like to read quietly alone, aloud to a friend, or even with a cuddly toy!
We’ve tried reading in different spaces in the classroom, explored the book corner, listened to each other’s book recommendations, and even shared why certain books “hook” us more than others.
It’s been wonderful to see readers grow in confidence—not just in fluency and comprehension, but in independence and ownership. Some children have realised they love humorous books, others are drawn to magical adventures, while a few enjoy exploring non-fiction texts and learning incredible facts.
As we continue to read our way, we’re building positive habits that we hope will last a lifetime. Because being a reader isn’t just about decoding words—it’s about connecting, imagining, laughing, thinking, and sometimes even crying. And we’re proud of every single child for taking part in that journey.
