This week, we started a brand-new topic in Science: Evolution and Inheritance! We came in after play to find some mysterious objects on our tables. After some careful observation and by making links with our reading on Mary Anning, we recognised them as fossils and excitedly began sharing our knowledge with one another.

We discussed how helpful fossils can be in helping us understand more about living things millions of years ago- how they have changed, where they lived, how they moved and even what they ate! We were fascinated by the fact that many living things we commonly see fossilised, for example ammonites, are now extinct.

We used iPads to research some living things such as ichthyosaurs, trilobites and ammonites, finding out how they looked, where they lived and how long ago.
