School Photos Day

Annual school photo day is taking place on Wednesday 21st May: class photos, portraits and sibling photos. Children need to wear their full uniform on this day, including black footwear and their school cardigan/jumper. If your child has got PE on this day, they may bring their PE kit in their bag.

Attendance and Punctuality

Our attendance is strong this week at 97%. Let’s keep it this high!

The attendance bears this week go to Reception with 98.2% and Year 6 with 99%.

The early birds went to Reception and Year 5.

Christian Vision

At the heart of Holy Trinity & S. Silas School are high expectations and depth in faith that inspire our children to grow, flourish and work together to achieve their full potential. It is our intention for all children to develop their fullest sense of self, both individually and collectively.

Strong in our faith in God, let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, by encouraging one another.

Hebrews 10: 23-25

This week we have been reflecting on the section of the Lord’s Prayer: Give us this day our daily bread. We have though particularly carefully about the difference between what we want and what we need, and how God knows and provides what we truly need. A good illustration of this is found in the Gospel of Luke, when Jesus befriends Zacchaeus. As a tax collector, Zacchaeus was a hated figure, a greedy collaborator with the Romans who collected tax money from his fellow Judeans and corruptly took extra money for himself. Yet Jesus shocked the crowd in Jericho when he chose to eat at Zacchaeus’s house. This encounter with Jesus led Zacchaeus to a remarkable change of heart: he renounced his previous sinful way of life, repaid fourfold the people he had cheated, and sold half of all his possessions in aid of the poor.

‘Give us this day our daily bread’ means ‘Please give us the things we need.’  For some people, the things they need might be physical, material things, like food, water, shelter or money.  Zacchaeus had plenty of these things.  As a tax collector (especially one who took extra money from people), he would have been very rich, wearing expensive clothes, living in a large house, with plenty of fine food to eat.  What he needed, his ‘daily bread,’ was friendship, acceptance and a way to earn people’s forgiveness and make things right.  Jesus offered him all those things, but Zacchaeus only accepted them because he realised how much he needed them.  If he had thought ‘I don’t need Jesus’ help,’ then nothing would have changed for him.  But because he realised how much he needed a saviour, he welcomed Jesus into his home, and his life was changed forever. We hope that we can accept Jesus’ love and help in a similar way – by having the courage to acknowledge our failings, but also seeing ourselves as worthy and deserving of God’s care and redemption.

I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Luke 5:32

New Emotional Wellbeing Website for Young People and Families

A new NHS website, packed with emotional wellbeing and mental health information and resources, has been launched to help young people and families, as well as professionals working with them, to navigate support options.

NCL Waiting Room was produced with the help and input of young people, families and professionals. It aims to be a ‘one-stop shop’ for information on specialist mental health services, community groups, emotional wellbeing and self-care resources.

It allows young people and their parents or carers to search for, filter and share resources based on their needs and preferences.

NCL Waiting Room will continue to grow and develop, so watch this space for more details. You can visit the website here and try out the Support Hub resource navigation feature here.

If you have any feedback on the website, you can do this on the relevant pages of the site, or email rtown@tavi-port.nhs.uk
