As part of our DT learning this term, Year 6 went to a cookery session run by Waitrose. We learnt to make our own spicy bean burgers, which we then ate!
First, we attempted to identify the different types of beans that were in our mixing bowls. There was a huge range, featuring types such as pinto, kidney, black and fava beans. We then used forks to mash them as finely as possible.

Afterwards, we smelled different spices and tried to identify the seasonings. They were quite strong!

After seasoning our bean mix, we shaped them using our hands (and a bit of oil), before carefully sliding them onto hot pans to cook for a few minutes on each side.

We added grated cheese on top of our cooking patties and placed a lid over the top to melt the cheese using steam. In the meantime, we smashed avocado and got our pickles and lettuce ready. Once the cheese had melted, we assembled our burgers and ate them!
