It was wonderful to welcome the children back to the summer term and to our Shakespeare project! They were absolutely captivated by ‘Phil the Storyteller’ when he came in to tell the story of ‘The Winter’s Tale.’ Later this term, we will welcome drama and dance specialists into school to work with children and staff in preparation for performances at the end of the term. The children’s curriculum work this term will link to themes from the story as well as historical links to William Shakespeare and the period in which he lived.

Christian Vision
At the heart of our school are high expectations and depth in faith that inspire us to grow, flourish and work together to achieve our full potential. It is our intention that we all develop our fullest sense of self, both individually and collectively.

Toward love and good deeds
Hebrews 10: 24

The concept of depth in faith becomes most important when we look at the story of the Resurrection, as we did with the children this week. After Jesus died on the cross on Good Friday, his friends were heartbroken and confused; their faith was being tested more than ever before because the person they loved was gone. However, on Easter Sunday, the tomb was empty, and Jesus began to appear to his followers in a new, transformed way. This event proved that Jesus’ love was stronger than death, but it also marked a big change in how people would relate to him from then on.

During the forty days following the Resurrection, Jesus appeared and disappeared to different groups of people, almost as if he were training them for a time when he would not be physically visible at all. He was teaching them that even though he would soon go to heaven, he would always be with them. This is where the need for “depth” truly began. For the disciples, the Resurrection was the proof they needed, but for us today, it serves as a reminder that Jesus is alive in a spiritual way. We do not have to see a physical person walking through the school gates to know he is with us, because the Resurrection tells us he is around us all.

When we open our hearts and deepen our faith, we start to spot comeback moments everywhere. Every time someone makes a fresh start, it’s like a little spark lighting up the dark. We do not need to see the end of the story to know that everything is going to be alright.

OPAL update

What a wonderfully sunny, blossom-filled OPAL week it has been! Staff and children were full of smiles as they got stuck back into play times. Next week, all staff will receive training for phase 2 of our OPAL project… watch this space for more play experiences and updates!

We are currently collecting the following items for OPAL. Please pop them into the blue wheelie bin outside church hall. Many thanks!

  • Cardboard boxes of all shapes and sizes – please put these in the blue OPAL bins outside the church hall
  • Flowers/petals for the mud kitchen/potions station – instead of throwing away your ‘past their best’ flowers, pop them in the blue bucket next to the OPAL bins outside the church

If you are able to donate any amount towards our OPAL fund, big or small, please click here. Many thanks! We are currently fundraising for another social space to join our new big green den (a small green den!)

Behaviour Tip: managing secondary behaviours

Secondary behaviours are the ‘performance’ moves – the sighing, muttering, slow-walking etc – that happen after you’ve given an instruction or a correction. These are often a child’s attempt to reclaim power, deflect from the original negative behaviour, or ‘save face.’ Here are some tips on how to manage them at home:

  • Don’t take the bait: when you react to the eye-roll, you move the spotlight away from the primary behaviour and into a potential power struggle.
  • Be ‘boringly consistent:’ ignore the secondary theatrics. If they are moving towards the goal, even with a huff, they are technically complying. You can always revisit the secondary behaviour later when everyone feels calmer.
  • Give ‘take-up time:’ deliver the instruction/expectation, then walk away. This removes the audience and allows them the space to follow through without further conflict.

Occasional Places

On occasion we have spaces in which to welcome new children and families to our school. You are the ones that know us best, so if you know of any family looking for a school place, please do advise them to contact the school office to find out if we have any places. They are also very welcome to visit.

Attendance and Punctuality

Our attendance was 96.4% this week, a positive start to the term.

Congratulations to the following classes who had the best attendance for the first week back: Y2 with 98.3% and Y3 with 96.8%. The Early Birds go to Y1 and Y3.

It allows young people and their parents or carers to search for, filter and share resources based on their needs and preferences.

You can visit the website here and try out the Support Hub resource navigation feature here.
