“The secret of change is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old but on building the new”

Socrates

As we reach the end of another fantastic academic year, I want to express my deepest gratitude for the incredible care, courage, and co-operation shown by our entire school community. It has been inspiring to have seen our children flourish and grow; working together to their fullest potential and in so many ways. Thank you parents/carers for you continued support in making our school such a special place to learn and grow. Finally to our Year 6, we wish you the very best of luck as you move on to new adventures! Wishing everyone a wonderful and joyful summer!

Governors Report to Parents

As we come to the end of another year in our wonderful school community, here is an update from the governing body on our activities. We also wanted to take the opportunity to thank you all – parents and carers, children and staff – for making Holy Trinity such a special, caring, ambitious and creative place. We hope you all have a restful summer, with particular best wishes to our Year 6s who are moving on to new adventures.

With my very best wishes, Katie Roden, Chair of Governors

On behalf of the Full Governing Body: Arabella, Boo, Will, Lisa, Laolu, Hannah, Katie, Richard, Neil, Lorraine, Gill, Tessa and Fr Philip.

Resources and Finance Committee

The Resources and Finance Committee has met five times over the past year, with numerous additional touchpoints throughout. The committee’s work has included, but is not limited to:

  • Reviewing actual expenditure against the approved budget
  • Conducting a detailed analysis of the three-year budget forecast
  • Undertaking an in-depth review of Health and Safety logs
  • Scrutinising proposed changes to the school environment
  • Assessing the management of online Data Protection issues

As with all Governing Board committees, our role is to provide support and guidance to the Head and Staff. The clarity and thoroughness of information provided by the Headteacher and the School Business Manager has enabled the committee to fulfil this role efficiently and effectively.

While government funding continues to fall short of rising costs, the school is managing the situation prudently. With the continued and very much appreciated support of The Mercers and PiP, the school remains in sound financial health. However, financial pressures in the later years are expected to be even more challenging than previously anticipated and we will continue to monitor this closely.

Performance Committee

Our role as the Performance Committee is to monitor how well teaching and learning are performing for every pupil, how our teachers are continually developing our curriculum and their methods and how well our children are progressing in every sense, against national and local benchmarks but also in terms of their individual talents and capabilities.

Firstly, thank you to parents and carers for your support throughout the year, in particular how you embrace both attendance and punctuality, key components of a happy and successful journey through school life.

The school undertakes an enormous amount of bespoke teaching to ensure that all children have the very best opportunities to learn in a positive and engaging manner. The well-being of the team is critical to the success of the school, and senior leaders have done so much to support the whole team. With thanks to every member of the teaching and support staff who work tirelessly for each of our children.

As ever, a key goal for the school this year has been the attainment of those children who have needed extra help, be it in Reading, Writing or Maths. Through different teaching methods, including the introduction of echo reading (a scheme where adults read and children repeat back what has been said) and precision teaching with a particular focus area, each one of the target groups has grown stronger over the year.

The additional needs of children are managed by an experienced SEND team, with an increasing number of individual programmes designed to support learning and development. Inclusivity is key but there is sometimes the requirement for time and space outside of the traditional classroom environment. The school successfully applied for funding for a sensory pod in the playground and we are sure that children will benefit from the relaxing and calming space which will be completed in time for the new school year.

Goodbye to Mr Williams

Mr Williams would like to share his huge thanks and appreciation to staff, parents and children for the generosity of his gift (a holiday voucher) and the care he was shown on his last day.

Final Sporting News

A group of Y6 sports athletes have demonstrated exceptional talent and dedication throughout the year, culminating in a remarkable achievement in the CSSA competitions. This report highlights their accomplishments, showcasing their performance, teamwork, and recognition.

This year, our pupils participated in a total of 25 out of 33 CSSA competitions. Their commitment to competing in these events reflects their enthusiasm for sports and their desire to excel.
The group achieved an impressive total of 583 points across all competitions. This remarkable score not only signifies their hard work and determination but also highlights their skills in various sports disciplines.

As a result of their outstanding performance, the pupils were awarded the prestigious ‘Best Small School Champions’ trophy. This accolade recognizes their achievements and sets a benchmark for future participants. Additionally, they secured 3rd place overall among all competing schools, showcasing their competitive spirit and teamwork.

The accomplishments of our sports pupils are a testament to their hard work, dedication, and sportsmanship. Their success in the CSSA competitions has brought pride to our school and serves as an inspiration for future athletes. We are all extremely proud of each and every one of them.

Huge thanks to PiP on organising a super summer fair – it was such a wonderful school community event and raised a very healthy £1,621.52. A huge well done to our Y6 entrepreneurs in particular, whose stalls and activities contributed a fantastic £442.50 to the overall takings.

Attendance and Punctuality

Our attendance for the academic year is 96.3%, which is very good! I am sure that we will continue to build on this next year.

Well done to Year 1 for having the best attendance for the year at 97.5%.

Christian Vision

At the heart of Holy Trinity & S. Silas School are high expectations and depth in faith that inspire our children to grow, flourish and work together to achieve their full potential. It is our intention for all children to develop their fullest sense of self, both individually and collectively.

Strong in our faith in God, let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, by encouraging one another.

Hebrews 10: 23-25

As we draw to the close of another enriching academic year, we take a moment to reflect on the journey we have shared, led by God’s kind hand. It has been a year where we have seen our children and staff grow not just in knowledge, but in character, demonstrating care, courage, and co-operation. We have also felt how wonderfully we’ve spurred one another on, encouraging each other to achieve our best and support one another through every step.

Just as David, a young shepherd boy, faced the giant Goliath with immense courage and unwavering faith (1 Samuel 17), our children too have faced their own challenges, big and small, relying on God’s strength. David did not face Goliath alone; he had God on his side. Similarly, we are reminded of Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” This reminds us that with God’s help, we are capable of amazing things.

New Emotional Wellbeing Website for Young People and Families

A new NHS website, packed with emotional wellbeing and mental health information and resources, has been launched to help young people and families, as well as professionals working with them, to navigate support options.

NCL Waiting Room was produced with the help and input of young people, families and professionals. It aims to be a ‘one-stop shop’ for information on specialist mental health services, community groups, emotional wellbeing and self-care resources.

It allows young people and their parents or carers to search for, filter and share resources based on their needs and preferences.

NCL Waiting Room will continue to grow and develop, so watch this space for more details. You can visit the website here and try out the Support Hub resource navigation feature here.

If you have any feedback on the website, you can do this on the relevant pages of the site, or email rtown@tavi-port.nhs.uk
