This week, Year 3 became Tropical Plant Detectives as we combined our Geography and Science learning to explore the fascinating world of plants found in the tropical climate zone.
Using iPads, the children developed their research skills by investigating a variety of tropical plants, including banana plants, coconut palms, orchids and cacao trees. They discovered where these plants grow, the warm and wet conditions they need to thrive, and some amazing facts about each one.
As part of our new Science unit on plants, the children also explored what plants need to survive and began thinking about how different environments help plants to grow. This helped them make links between their Geography learning about tropical climates and their understanding of the basic needs and features of flowering plants.
The children then transformed their research into colourful information posters before confidently presenting their findings to the class. It was wonderful to see everyone developing their computing, research and presentation skills while sharing their enthusiasm for the natural world.
We are incredibly proud of the curiosity, teamwork and confidence Year 3 showed throughout this lesson. We can’t wait to continue exploring the wonderful world of plants over the coming weeks!
