To celebrate Black History Month and Year 1’s learning about Mary Seacole, Year 1 took part in a write-a-thon about her extraordinary life! This began with a practical smell and touch sensory station where the children could explore the ingredients Mary used in her herbal medicines. The children also role played what it might be like for a soldier in the Crimea, thinking about how Mary improved conditions for the wounded. Using these experiences, the children then wrote a list poem about Mary Seacole’s achievements.
