Christian Value – Service
The concept of service calls individuals to lay their own things aside for the needs of others in a proactive way. By recognising the needs of others and giving something of yourself to help, you are serving others. The parable of the Good Samaritan shows we should serve those in need, whoever they are. Such service is not offered to gain some advantage for ourselves. ‘Going the extra mile’ involves sacrifice and putting ourselves out for someone else’s benefit.
For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in.
Matthew 25:35
