We hope that families enjoyed the Easter break, the spring weather was certainly a welcome boost!

As everyone is aware, this year the Queen is celebrating her Platinum Jubiliee. We will take this on Monday 6th June which means that the children will then return to school on Tuesday 7th June after the half term holiday.

Art Bytes

This year, our lovely Y5 children have taken part in Art Bytes – a new national art programme and competition for primary, secondary and SEN schools.

Thanks to sponsorship from Cllr Patricia Callaghan, Member for Camden, we were able to enter one artwork per child into the inter-school competition. The entries are viewable online in our school gallery (see link below). A panel of judges from the art world have selected three winning artworks from each school to be exhibited at a partner venue in June. Our venue is Camden Arts Centre and our winning children are Darcy, Jason and OIiver – their work is below for you to enjoy! Congratulations to them, and to all the children for their fantastic work! There is now a public vote for most popular artwork from among the winners. We hope you will enjoy looking at their gallery and don’t forget to vote for your favourite – the closing date is 1st May! https://artbytes.co.uk/browse-schools/

Christian Value – Compassion

To begin to develop compassion we need to be able to understand the feelings of others and develop greater empathy. In order to achieve this, we must put ourselves in another person’s shoes; we must try to understand how they feel by imagining ourselves in their place.

People often confuse empathy with sympathy and compassion, but there are subtle differences. Sympathy means recognizing someone’s emotions, but empathy takes it a step further—with empathy, you feel the same emotion as the other person because you can imagine yourself in their place. Compassion takes this further still—when you are compassionate, you feel the need to act on another’s emotions to help relieve their suffering.

Children will continue to learn how to develop greater empathy, sympathy and ultimately compassion through the their relationships at home and school. They will also learn from the way they see those around them responding to wider issues. The very difficult situation in Ukraine is a sad but powerful example of true compassion, where we see people opening their hearts and homes to help those in need.

Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble.

Wellbeing Tip of the Week:

Different Types of Rest

Have you ever woken up from what you thought was a great sleep only to still feel tired and low in energy? That’s because sleep and rest are not the same thing, although many of us incorrectly confuse the two.

We go through life thinking we’ve rested because we’ve had enough sleep, but in reality, we are missing out on the other types of rest our bodies need. Have a look at the infographic below and see if you can incorporate the 7 types of rest into your weekly routine: physical; mental; sensory; creative; emotional; spiritual; and social rest. For more information on this, you can watch this Ted Talk by Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith.

Attendance and Punctuality
