Be not afraid of greatness. Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and others have greatness thrust upon them.

Christian Value of Compassion

Our collective worship focus for this half term has been the Lord’s Prayer. We explored what we are doing when we pray – talking, listening, being with – vocal prayer, meditation and contemplation. We also thought about what the Lord’s Prayer teaches us – to trust in God to do what is best for us and to accept that God knows what we need. We can often lose our way when being driven by what we want as opposed to what we need. One of the things that is an absolute need is to be compassionate to one another. We must try to ensure that our hearts and minds are always open to the needs of others and that we are proactive in putting ourselves in their shoes. The prayer begins by showing that we trust God to care for us and telling God that we know this is true. The second half of the prayer asks God to provide for us but also so help us to grow in our understanding of one another so that we will learn how to give to others the support they need and the forgiveness which brings us together.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all consolation, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can support those in any kind of trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.

2 Corinthians 1 3-4

Wellbeing Tip – Building Resilience

  • Perspective taking: Seeing things from other people’s point of view can help us to understand situations in different ways, which can help us to problem-solve and can help us to be more empathetic to others.
  • Positive mindset: thinking positively and challenging negative thoughts that pop into our head can help us to see the good in the world, which can make us feel happier.
  • Practice Gratitude: remembering the things we are grateful for and the good things in our life, help us to gain a positive attitude.
  • Look for the bright side: looking for the positive in any situation, however bad, can help us to feel better about it and can help us to be brave to face whatever comes our way.
