In Year 4, we have been celebrating Black History Month with a range of exciting learning experiences! In writing, we learned about Floella Benjamin, an inspiring author, actress, and campaigner who moved from Trinidad to England as part of the Windrush generation. The students researched her life and achievements to write their own information reports. We also explored Nikki Giovanni’s poem ‘Because’, using it as inspiration to write our own creative and expressive poems. To further celebrate Black culture, we took part in fantastic workshops, including an energetic African fusion dance session and a lively steel pan drumming workshop—it’s been a wonderful celebration of history, music, and creativity!
