This term in Year 3, we stepped back in time to the days of Ancient Rome as we created our very own Roman mosaics in our Latin lesson!
We learned how the Romans used mosaics to decorate floors, walls, and public spaces with intricate patterns and images, telling stories of gods, animals, and everyday life. Inspired by these ancient designs, we carefully arranged small coloured tiles (or tesserae, as the Romans called them!) to create our own masterpieces. Some of us designed geometric patterns, while others crafted images of animals, leaves, and even Roman soldiers.
As we worked, we also practised our Latin vocabulary, describing our mosaics using words like coloratus (colourful), magnificus (magnificent), and antiquus (ancient). It was a brilliant way to bring history to life through art, patience, and creativity!
Now, our mosaics are proudly displayed, a reminder of how much effort and skill went into Roman artwork—and how much fun we had making our own! Optime, Year 3! 🎨🏛️
